Buongiorno! My name (if you haven’t figured it out yet) is Crystal. I have been married for over a decade to the only man who could have ever put up with me for this long (love you, honey!) and we have three kids, who have taught me the value of such virtues as temperance, charity, diligence, patience, and kindness. Not that I’m particularly great at any of them, but they’re there.
I was raised in Orlando, Florida, in a time when children played outside until the streetlights came on, when we could safely walk down to Seven-Eleven for a Slurpee at any time of day, and when butterfly hair clips were all the rage (so, the 90s). My childhood was spent in and out of my imagination, reading books and coming up with scenarios and plots of my own. At eighteen I joined the Navy as an electronics tech in the nuclear field where I met my husband, and life has been a whirlwind ever since. In 2012, I had a dream that I honestly believe was my calling to pursue writing as a real career. I toyed with the idea for a while, but in 2015, I began the journey toward making it a reality.
At home out in the open Texas countryside, my husband and I run a sheep ranch and a busy household. I’ve spent the past few years writing short stories and building up a self-employed business as a freelance editor. Though I’ve set my editing aside for now, my love for grammar is built into my soul. In spring I’m a baseball mom, in winter I’m a crochet machine, and at all other times I’m a houseplant.
I proudly admin for a nonprofit organization called Authors’ Tale. We offer a Facebook community for all writers—poets, novelists, screenwriters, lyricists, hobbyists, etc.—and the atmosphere is friendly, helpful, and fun. If you enjoy writing, be sure to join us! Getting a little more topic-specific, we also run two subgroups: The Writer Scrolls, a critique and reference group, and Allegory Alley, a learning environment for all things poetry. You can learn more on our website, authorstale.wordpress.com.)
Deviating slightly from the writing nook, I co-own a fandom group on Facebook known as the Fantasy Fandom Forum. We share our love of all things fantasy, whether that means books, movies, games, shows, art, or anything else you can think of! Everyone is welcome here, and no amount of fangirling (or fanboying!) is too much. 😉
Lastly, and most personally to me, is the group I started on my birthday back in August. It’s called Worldbuilder’s Muse, and it focuses on—you guessed it—worldbuilding and idea generation. Whether you’re adding a single element to the real world or starting a planet from scratch, our members are amazing at helping each other flesh out their ideas and solidify their own realities. Got a world in your head? Your muse awaits!
