Golden Heart

A chill in the wind carries summer from sight

The storm overtakes my mind

A chill in the wind brings a shiver of fright

Love of a harrowing kind

The horizon is stubborn and lonely

Condolences too hard to find

The pouring rain whispers “if only”

A gentle face, weathered and lined

But my fate is not easily altered

Shelter not easy to build

Past discretions have faltered

All of my fears are fulfilled

A chill in the wind carries peace from my soul

The storm tears morality apart

As the lamb to the god for the harvest toll

Time weighs heavy on my golden heart
